Have you been looking for ways on how to improve skin that looks dull and tired? You’re in luck! Today I’ll be going over causes and possible solutions to this dilemma.

Since the pandemic began, I’ve pretty much neglected skin care. After all, my face is covered most of the time, and I didn’t see the point. Of course, now that things are starting to look like they’re slowly getting back to normal, I wanted to get back to taking care of my skin. You know, get it ready for when I get to roam around maskless again.

First things first, what causes our skin to look dull and tired?

Well, there could be many factors that may give our skin that lifeless appearance. Some of these things include built up of dead skin, dehydration, lack of sleep that could be causing dark under eyes, using the wrong products, and many more.

So here are some ways to improve skin that looks dull and tired.

1. Exfoliation

More than likely, you’re not cleansing and tending to your face properly. With having to wear a mask most times, skin can’t breathe and dead skin cells, dirt, dust and other things start to build up on your skin.

There are two ways to exfoliate skin: physical and chemical.

Chemical Exfoliation – basically uses acids to get rid of dead skin cells. Chemical exfoliants come in different concentrations. There are plenty of products that you can buy and use as part of your daily skin care routine. It also can be professional grade and can only be applied by professionals. It’s best to consult your dermatologist or licensed aesthetician if you’re new to chemical peels.

For physical exfoliation, you can use products like a cleansing brush or silicone brush pads to gently exfoliate your skin. You will see an immediate difference if that dullness is caused by dead skin built up. See examples below.

2. Hydration

I have to say, I do struggle with this one as well. However, it is something I’m continually trying to get better at. We all know the importance of keeping ourselves hydrated and yes, our skin is definitely one that suffers from inadequate hydration. Although this isn’t a quick fix, just know that proper hydration is important to our skin. Without getting too scientific, it helps with cell turn over and getting rid of dead skin cells making way for new healthy ones.

3. Better Sleep

So what happens when we are sleep deprived? Besides being grouchy, it become very apparent on our faces. Most notably, those pesky dark under eyes. It’s important to make sure you are giving your body enough rest and sleep to give it the time it needs to recuperate and recover.

4. Vitamin Deficiency

Along with adequate hydration, proper nutrition is also vital to our skin health. With eating a well balanced meal, you should be getting your recommended vitamin intake. If not, make sure you are supplementing. For instance, Vitamin D plays a role in skin growth and repair. Vitamin C helps with collagen production. Biotin supplements are also good for hair, skin, and nail health.

5. Exercise

Are you even surprised that this is included in the list? What does exercising have to do with skin appearance anyway? The answer is A LOT. Without going too much into all the details, just know that it helps with blood circulation. That circulation allows blood to deliver oxygen and nutrients to our skin and also helps in removal of waste products. So if you need another motivation to get a sweat sesh on, just add glowing youthful skin to the list.

So I understand that most things on this list do take time and actual commitment to see lasting results. However, don’t get too discourage because there are a few tips and tricks for a quick and easy way to make dull and tired looking skin less so.

Quick easy fix for dark under eyes, and apply to other areas of your skin to give the illusion of healthy looking skin.

Highlighter

If strategically placed and best if used with the concealer method, this can improve the appearance of dull skin instantly. There are plenty of YouTube videos that can show you the how to’s and step by step to achieve what you’re looking for.
