Zip lining has been a part of my bucket list ever since I learned what a bucketlist is. It’s one of those activities that you just have to try at least once in your life if you’re into that sort of thing. I love trying new things and I’m honestly surprised it took me this long to do this. I have gone skydiving, parasailing, flown a small Cessna plane, but have never been zip lining in Florida until now.

A lot of it has something to do with the opportunity arising, I guess. And with Florida being mostly a flat state, I didn’t think it was the ideal place to go ziplining. I felt like I would be missing out on some amazing views if I chose to do the the simple treetop zipline. This was until I found out from a friend at work about this place in Ocala, FL called Canyons Zip Line and Adventure Park.

I literally exclaimed, “What canyons? There are no canyons in Florida!” I was wrong of course. When I looked this place up, I fell in love with what I saw. I knew I was going to visit that place sooner than later.

RESERVATION

Since spots are limited, it’s best to make a reservation specially if you’re coming from somewhere else that requires a couple of hours of driving. There are multiples tours throughout the day and each group has a max of 10 spots. I was able to make our reservation online. You will receive several emails for confirmation and instructions.

CHECK-IN

Check in for us was quick and easy. You are asked to arrive 30 mins early to sign the waivers but you also have the option to sign the waivers in advance online.

SAFETY BRIEFING

Practice area

Once signed in, we were told to wait outside where we greeted by our guides. We were asked to line up in front of our gears which were laid out on the ground for us. We were fitted with the harness, provided gloves and helmets. After getting our gears on. We drove straight to the practice area (pictured above) where we were taught the basics of zipping.

TOUR

Since this will be our first time zip lining in Florida, we decided to book the Big Cliff Canyon Tour, which includes nine zip lines (tree tops and over the lake), crossing two rope bridges, and a rappel at the end. The tour starts out over tree tops with shorter zip lines. They eventually get higher and longer until you reach the breathtaking Big Cliff Canyon and have to zip over Lost Spring Lake. There are several water breaks in between and a couple of photo opportunities along the way (pictures that you can purchase later on).

I am so happy to have been able to experience this and finally check it off my list. Canyons Zip Line and Adventure Park isn’t all about zip lining, they offer other tours like horseback riding, kayaking, wine and chocolate, gem mining and much more. Please visit their site for more information.
